Over 56,000 women become mothers in Aotearoa every year.
1 in 3 will describe their birth as traumatic
1 in 3 will experience urinary incontinence after childbirth
1 in 6 will experience perinatal mental distress
And up to 50% will not seek help
Behind every number is a mother who deserved more support than she received.
Becoming a mum shouldn’t cost you your wellbeing.
That’s why The Village NZ exists.
The Village NZ?
In a nutshell, we’re a free online community, connecting mums and whānau with support, shared experiences, and trusted, evidence-informed education through the first 1000 days of your journey.
A space where you can feel seen, supported and celebrated, through every part of motherhood.
A place where you don’t have to have it all together.
Where you can ask the question you’ve been holding in.
Where someone will say, “me too.”
Online and in real life, we’re here to remind you: you’re not alone in this.

“It really does take a village, and I’m so grateful I found mine. The Village NZ has been a place of connection, advice, and kindness during my journey as a mum.”

“I love the easy-to-read information that isn’t telling me what to do, but showing me all my options.”

“I really enjoyed the classes! I’ve taken away so much from these sessions, from preparation, labour and postpartum, through to newborn care, breastfeeding and the challenges that come with it. I feel a lot more prepared now and have some good tools for the journey ahead.”
- Mum, Auckland

“Was really enjoyable and informative! Felt like I could discuss anything, was a good safe space.”
