This class gives you in-depth breastfeeding education alongside honest support for the emotional side of early parenthood.
On the feeding side, you’ll expand on the foundations of breastfeeding; how to recognise hunger cues before baby gets to the crying stage, how to cope with low supply or over supply, how to avoid sore/cracked nipples. We’ll work through achieving a deep, comfortable latch, practising different feeding positions, and how to know if baby is getting enough. You’ll also get a clear picture of what’s happening in your body when it produces milk, plus practical ways to work through common feeding challenges and less common ones such as mastitis.
On the emotional side, you’ll look at what perinatal mental health means and why it matters for both you and baby. You’ll learn to recognise the emotional and psychological challenges that can show up during birth and postpartum, along with practical strategies for building resilience and managing stress and anxiety. We’ll cover the risk factors and early signs of postpartum depression, so you know what to watch for and how to catch them early. You’ll also look at building a support network and communicating what you actually need to the people around you, plus setting expectations for birth and early parenthood that match reality rather than the highlight reel.
By the end, you’ll feel more confident with the practical side of feeding and better prepared for the emotional ups and downs of those first weeks and months.
Suitable for women at 28-34 weeks of pregnancy. Partners/support person welcome.
