A free three-week programme for New Zealand mums with newborns to four months. Support, education, and connection through the fourth trimester.
The weeks and months after birth, often called the “fourth trimester,” are a time of enormous change for both you and your baby. While so much focus goes on pregnancy and birth, many mothers are surprised by just how much adjustment happens once baby arrives.
The Fourth Trimester is a free three-week series for New Zealand mums with babies from newborn to four months. It offers a safe, welcoming space to learn, connect, and work through the realities of early motherhood alongside other women who understand exactly what you’re going through. Your baby is welcome to attend with you.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, exhausted, or simply wanting more support during this transition, this programme provides practical guidance, evidence-based information, and meaningful connection during one of the biggest transformations of your life.
Meet Your Facilitator

The Fourth Trimester is facilitated by Liora Noy, Obstetric Postnatal Nurse, Lactation Consultant, Parenting and Postnatal Depression Educator.
With extensive experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, feeding, recovery, and emotional wellbeing, Liora creates a compassionate and judgement-free environment where mothers can ask questions, share experiences, and feel supported through the challenges and joys of early parenthood.
What You’ll Learn
Each series consists of three weekly sessions, intentionally kept small with only 6 to 8 mothers per group. That keeps it a comfortable space for discussion, learning, and connection.
Topics include:
- Understanding the transition into motherhood (matrescence)
- Emotional wellbeing and identity changes after birth
- Newborn sleep, feeding, and behaviour
- Managing changing relationships and family dynamics
- Building support networks and asking for help
- Self-care and coping strategies for new mothers
- Returning to work and navigating changing expectations
Session One: Understanding Matrescence
Becoming a mother is one of life’s most significant transitions.
In this session, we’ll explore the concept of matrescence: the physical, emotional, hormonal, and identity changes that happen as you become a mother. Together we’ll discuss why these changes are normal, why they can feel overwhelming, and how understanding them can help you move through this transition with greater self-compassion.
Session Two: Understanding the Fourth Trimester
The fourth trimester can be both beautiful and challenging.
We’ll explore what is developmentally normal for newborns, including feeding, sleeping, crying, and the intense need for connection and comfort. Understanding what’s normal can help reduce anxiety and build confidence as you learn to respond to your baby’s needs.
Session Three: Coping Strategies for the Fourth Trimester
Looking after a newborn starts with looking after yourself too.
In our final session, we’ll focus on practical strategies to support your wellbeing during early motherhood. That includes self-care, managing stress, building support systems, and finding realistic ways to put your own needs alongside caring for your baby.
By the End of the Series, You’ll Have:
- A better understanding of the transition into motherhood
- Greater confidence in caring for your newborn
- Practical strategies for navigating the fourth trimester
- More realistic expectations of life with a newborn
- Connection with other mothers experiencing a similar journey
